Nathaniel Martin is a Family Law and Criminal Defense attorney at Genesis Legal Group, known for his client-focused approach and deep understanding of both sides of the courtroom. Born and raised in Phoenix, Nathaniel has spent nearly his entire life in the North/Northwest Valley, returning home after law school in the Los Angeles area and a role as a prosecutor in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Nathaniel’s path to law was shaped by a unique blend of personal inspiration and professional exploration. After pursuing a career in professional golf and working in finance, he found himself unfulfilled and seeking something more meaningful. Watching his father attend law school later in life and become an attorney sparked the realization that it wasn’t too late to follow that same path. “Whether it's navigating a difficult family matter or defending someone facing criminal charges, my goal is always the same — to guide my clients through the storm and toward a better future.” That mindset led him to law school at age 35—and into a career he truly loves.
Prior to joining Genesis Legal Group, Nathaniel served as a prosecutor in Albuquerque from late 2023 to early 2025, and then with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office until joining the firm. His time as a prosecutor gave him firsthand insight into how the criminal justice system works—from charging decisions and plea negotiations to trial strategy. This insider knowledge is invaluable when defending clients today. “It’s like being traded in sports—I know their playbook,” he says. “I know how prosecutors think, what they’re aiming for, and how to get ahead of it.”
In family law matters, Nathaniel draws not only from legal training but also from deeply personal experience. Having gone through a divorce and challenging custody negotiations himself, he understands how overwhelming and emotional family law cases can be. Combined with insights gained from his father—a long-time family law attorney—Nathaniel brings both empathy and practical guidance to clients facing these life-altering issues.
When he’s not practicing law, Nathaniel enjoys spending time with his two kids, especially on the baseball field. A lifelong baseball fan and former aspiring pro golfer, he still plays recreational baseball and gets out on the golf course a few times a week. He also enjoys playing guitar and staying active in the Phoenix community he proudly calls home.
For Nathaniel, practicing law is about more than legal arguments—it’s about helping people. “Nobody comes to a lawyer because things are going great,” he says. “My job is to listen, guide, and fight for the best possible outcome—no matter what brought them in.
